How long will the session take?
Each session has unique needs. A newborn session, for example, can take anywhere between 2-4 hours. We work on baby’s time, around feeding schedules and the individual needs of the baby. A family session, on the other hand, can take 1-2 hours because I want to capture not just your family as a whole but each part of your family. With that being said, sessions can average about an hour (not counting minis, which are about 15 minutes).
What should I wear? What should I bring?
The possibilities are endless. About the only things not to wear are clothes with logos, words, or distracting patterns. The outfits that are worn should compliment not only your personality but also each other. Outfit changes are welcome and encouraged.
As for what to bring, keep in mind anything that is age-appropriate for your child’s personality. Maybe at this stage in life he’s in to super heroes or she likes to dress up like a ballerina. Bring in his action heroes, her tutus or tea set. The name of the game is to have some fun! We go over this at the time you book your session so if you’re not sure what to wear or what to bring in we can brainstorm together.
What does the session include?
Once you’ve signed your contract and paid your deposit, that guarantees a session time. There’s no overcrowding of appointments in my books; I leave enough time for each family as is appropriate for the shoot. In fact, I may dedicate an entire morning to just you and your family!
You deposit covers your time. What you’re getting is an experience. You’ll have use of my full studio of outfits and props, every image in your gallery is masterfully edited, and every piece of equipment or prop is sanitized between each session. The entire session is relaxed and comfortable. My greatest joy is to see everyone having fun at their session.
Do I get to see my pictures the same day?
I try to give a “sneak peek” on social media to view the highlights of each session. If you haven’t signed a social media release with me, no worries, I can easily just text it to you. In addition, you will be scheduled for a “viewing” after your session date. A viewing is where we sit down together, look over all the finished portraits, and build your package. There’s no additional fee for this viewing, your deposit has it covered.
If the deposit is “non-refundable,” what if something happens and I can’t make it?
Life happens. Sometimes there will be a session scheduled and an unexpected schedule conflict occurs or your child gets sick. Maybe you wanted to get the whole family together but someone got called into work. Don’t sweat it!
Each deposit is non-refundable, but you can reschedule your session up to two times for no additional charge. Keep in mind the timeline of each session when rescheduling. If your baby is older than 4 weeks s/he may not handle some of the poses that younger newborns sleep through. If, for example, you want to downgrade your family session to just a sibling session, the difference in deposit will be applied toward your product order.
Do you not have prices I can look at?
I do indeed have prices of individual products in case you just want one item or you’re reordering from a previous session. However, during your viewing session we sit down together and custom build a package that fits both your portrait needs and your budget. These customized packages are discounted at the time of purchase that day, so you get your best deal during your viewing session (definitely invite extended family if you want to!). Since every session is different, it’s hard to nail any one session down to a specific price.
What does make one session different from another that’s pretty quantifiable is time. The more outfit changes, the more time we take. The more newborn sets and backdrops you want, the more time we take. When you sign your contract, you’ll get a call from me to set a day and time, and work out all those details. From there, I can give you a rough estimate of what to expect price-wise.
Do the digital images give us copyrights?
Neeshanoo Photography retains all the copyrights to all images taken in your session, as stated in your contract. When people ask this question, their main concern is prints. Yes, the digital proofs give you the ability to print your images and share them on your socials.
You will receive two image files with your digital proofs. One web-sized, watermarked image to share on the Internet and one without a watermark for printing. The web-sized are a smaller size to quickly upload, and the Neeshanoo watermark is still there to protect your images on social media (so family members or random friends can’t print your images without your permission).
